New to the Rowing Schedule

Echo Class – To develop skills needed to be able to use the boat independently

Day 1

  1. Un-strapping the boats
  2. Carrying the boats at high tide and at low tide down ramp
  3. Strengths and weaknesses of the boat : it can be put right on the dock, folding riggers, oars put in while still on dock. Water tight compartment
  4. How to get into the boat properly, including how to put oars in properly
  5. How to adjust foot stretchers so they are appropriate for the rower
  6. How to walk the boat off the dock
  7. Setting the boat up, and proper way to get in and out of boat
    Easy swing row
  8. Landing the boat
  9. How to take the oars out of the boat
  10. How to carry the boat up the dock
  11. How to store the boat on the rack
  12. Strapping the boat, rinsing down

Day 2

  1. How to push someone [in a boat] off the dock
  2. How to safely navigate the mooring field
  3. Some technique work
  4. Turning the boat
  5. Landing the boat safely
  6. How to help someone land
  7. Flipping and how to get back in the boat

Day 3

  1. Steering, traffic pattern, starting on land and with pattern on the chart
  2. Row over the pattern and getting sight references and steering points
  3. Capts. test to be open row approved

NOTE: Rain or shine classes will be held; if weather does not cooperate we will have a dry land workout for you.

NEW for 2010: All rowers participating in open rowing in a Lincoln boat, as well as the racing quads, double or single will have to show proof of having passed a swim test further information.

YOUTH Rowing Program (Ages 13 - 18)

Spring / Fall Sessions

Six-week sessions are available in the spring and fall. Each session runs for 1 1/2 hours, 2 days per week (see schedule below).

Open Rowing

Open Rowing hours are included at no additional charge for anyone enrolled in the 2010 season. For those not enrolled, the Open Rowing fee is $165. per season, which also adds your name to the rowing sub list.

Sign up sheets are available to reserve a specific boat each week. If not reserved, all boats available on a first come-first serve basis.

* Requirements to row a racing double

** Should check with an instructor to get prior approval to take out a racing shell.

** If you plan to row the Hudson single or double, you need to allow time at the start or end of rowing class so that you can get a ride out to and back from the dock where the boats are stored.
